Both TEFL and TESOL are acronyms for certification of teaching English to non-native speakers.
TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. TESOL is the most common one in Turkey. It is also called as TESL - Teaching English as Second Language mostly in the US.
INTESOL Worldwide was founded in the UK in 1993 by Lynda Hazelwood in the belief that anyone possessing the passion to teach, the skills to express themselves clearly, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of others should be given the opportunity and encouragement to gain a professional certification in TEFL/TESOL. INTESOL is the brand name. INTESOL Turkey is the exclusive franchise in Turkey and all course operations are managed by British English Board.
As a prospective English teacher, you should have at least B2 level English in all language skills (especially in speaking). You will be asked to send a voice messages as an audio response to several questions and there might be a phone conversation later on if it's needed.
You can apply private educational institutions such as language schools, private (which is called - independent - in the UK) schools etc. after you successfully complete your online TESOL course and teaching practice. However, you could follow up the announcements for some state schools as well- you can work on contract basis. There are three different titles to be assigned by Turkish National Education Ministry's Regional Offices to teach English legally in Turkey: English Teacher (graduation from English Teaching Departments), Specialist Instructor of English (graduation from English Literature,American Literature etc.), and Master Instructor of English (with certificate courses). Your legal title will be the third one - Master Instructor of English (İngilizce Usta Öğretici) - after a successful completion of the course, Turkish National Education Ministry's regional office will additionally ask a degree at least 2 year associate degree (önlisans) from a university. The official correspondence will be between MEB and the instituiton you apply. You will also receive an Approval Letter in Turkish/English with your TESOL certificate.
